Additional Sir Cumference and the First Round Table (A Math Adventure) Information

When King Arthur and his knights get together, the table they have is so long that everyone has to shout to be heard. A rectangular table is too long and a triangular table is too pointy, but somehow they must sit down and discuss the shape of the future. Join a knight called Sir Cumference, his wife, Lady Di of Ameter, and their son Radius as they use different strategies to solve this quandary.

Fanciful illustrations add to the merriment of learning math and will inspire young mathematicians.

What Customers Say About Sir Cumference and the First Round Table (A Math Adventure):

A kindergarten and a second grade class both enjoyed the story and they were exposed to math. Excellent book for what I wanted. My five year old also enjoys it.

I love all the Sir Cumference books.I found one in a used bookstore and bought the rest on Amazon. My 9 year old son can't get enough of math, and these help him (and his mom) remember the terms easily--terms no doubt he will have on a test some day at school.Another recommendation for your math loving child--What's Your Angle, Pythagoras. And yet another--Fun With Roman Numerals.

Perfect for a grade school student. Very clever - the story, the characters' names - all of it. I bought it for my seven year old and it got a big thumbs up from both him and his dad.

A few other characters from Camelot appear, such as Sir Lancelot and Sir Gawain. Geo of Metry makes tables in several shapes before a round table solves all the problems. Shapes and measurements are explained in the quest for the perfect council table for the king and his knights. King Arthur and his knights needed to have a council, but there was a problem with the table around which they met. Very cute. The illustrations are great, with medieval pageantry and geometric explanations.

When the round table is finally found to be the perfect shape, the king names certain measurements after Sir Cumference, Radius, and the Lady Di from Ameter. This 32 page children's book tells how Sir Cumference, his wife the Lady Di of Ameter, and their son Radius solve the problems of the king's table. It began as too long; after that was fixed, the table had too few sides, and other tables produced more objections. This is a great book to introduce geometry to the young, making it fun and easy.

This is probably due to the clever visual and contextual associations provided. Plan to get them all. My kids (9 and 6) , who are homeschooled, loved this story and it resulted in them being able to instantly recall the proper names of geometric elements and classes (e.g., radius, circumference, obtuse, acute). We bought another book in the series right afterward with the same results.
